Dear Denis –

I just returned from Spain – the trip was one of the great and rich experiences a man can have in his life. I hope to see you soon and to tell you about. –

When I came to London in July I called on Spencer Curtis Brown and was amazed to find an agent who has not the slightest confidence into the theatrical possibilities of Blind Man’s Buff – in spite of the article which St. John Ervine had published a few days before (Which, by the way, he had not even read). He just said: “The London producers do not like the play, I’m sorry, I cannot do much more.”

When I said to Halliday that under these circumstances I have to look for another agent, Halliday answered he quite understands my attitude. As you were not in England or Ireland I took the liberty to approach Eric Glass 41 West End Lane London N. W. 6., a young efficient man, who represents since a year O’Casey, Nichols, Cooper and others and whom I know since years. The success spoke for the rightness of my decision. Two days later, five minutes before I left London, he brought me an offer from Ronald Adams and when I came back to France I found the contract.

As you are in London now, I wired Glass to get in contact with you and settle things. I “hereby” authorize you to sign the contract in my behalf, you know by far better the theatre situation in London than I. – As we could not get a big theatre until to-day I do not mind to have the play as a kind of tryout. Ronald Adams did many plays in the same way and brought them later to Picadilly.
