May 4, 1937.

My dear Upton Sinclair: –

Knowing your deep interest in the Mooney case I want to advise you of the following:

As you possibly know the case has reached a status where it is hoped to free Tom Mooney through habeas corpus proceedings.

A group of actors, writers and directors have formed a committee for the purpose of assisting Mooney.

On Thursday, May 6th at 8.30 p.m. a private meeting will be held in the Academy Lounge, Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, when Mooney’s attorney will report on the case and members of the committee will submit suggestions how best to assist the case.

I have been asked to advise you of this meeting and to invite you to attend.

Looking forward to seeing you I am with kindest regards for you and Mrs. Sinclair,

Yours,

Ernst Toller.
