Dear Selden:–
I have gone through the poems and I shall be glad if you will publish Nrs. 11, 16, 19, 21, 31. I personally prefer the publication in “Common Sense”. However, if you wish to publish them in Saturday Review of Literature, then it must be definitely stated that there are already two translations by Ashley Dukes and Robert Ellis, respectively, and that you attempted a third translation, but please do me a favor and do not state that your translation was made at my request; I told you over the telephone why such a statement would cause a most delicate situation.
With very kindest greetings and auf Wiedersehen soon,
Ever yours,
Ernst Toller.
