Dear Thomas,
I, too, was sorry that I could not come to you last Sunday. However, I quite understood your reason, and I have not been offended at all, for it was not you who had invited me but I made the proposal to come although I did not know whether it would be convenient for you.
I am sorry the 12th of August will not suit me because I shall go to Cornwall for some weeks and shall depart between the 5th and 10th of that month.
However, I hope to see you soon either in Hatherop or London. Please give my kind regards to your sister.
