Oxford. –
Dear Sir,
I am extremely sorry to tell you that through a misunderstanding your letter of 27th April only reached me to-day. The letter was addressed c/o Messrs. Faber & Faber, whereas my present address is c/o. John Lane, The Bodley Head, and the letter was not sent on to me until a few days ago. I sincerely hope that you will understand and excuse the late answer. –
Please accept my sincerest thanks for your kind invitation. I have had to go abroad for reasons of health but hope to be back in England within the next few days. I am afraid the time will be a little short for the preparation of the chapter you ask me to write, but I will let you know as soon as I arrive. –
In the meantime I wish to remain,
Yours sincerely,
