Ralph Pinker , Esq.

Dear Mr. Pinker,
I am sorry about your last letter. I wrote to you that I would get the decision of the income tax inspector because I wanted to tell him all the reasons which would have permitted him in accordance with the law to desist from the immediate payment of 25% income tax. Those reasons you did and could not know. Now you have brought about without asking me a decision of the inspector which renders my situation most difficult. It is very difficult to cancel a pronounced decision, and I don’t understand your proceedings.
Meanwhile I have decided to keep the serial rights in my own hands, and I would be grateful if you would not undergo any further trouble in that matter. This moment I have got to leave for Essex, but I shall be back to-morrow. Would it be possible for you to come and see me on Wednesday morning at 12 o’clock? I would like to talk with you about all these questions and try to reach a loyal and friendly agreement.
Yours very sincerely
Ernst Toller.
