Dear Mr. Scott-James,
thank you so much for your letter. I feel very sad that you have to cease publication of the “Mercury”.
It was an excellent and essential review and I have read it regularly for years.
I can imagine how you must feel to have to give up your editorship.
With good wishes
yours sincerely
Ernst Toller.
P.S. Letters which I got from English friends show me the panic. Some of us emigrants have foreseen these events already in 1933 but nobody would listen to us. Many people thought it was our “wishful” thinking when we revealed existing tendencies and facts. What will remain of the world in which we breathed and which we loved!
