Dear Mr. Munsell:
Thank you for your letter of January 9th. Although it is not easy for me, I must insist on having a full statement not only of the year 1936 but of the years preceding. I feel sure that your sense of fair play will lead you to agree with me that I have a legal and moral right to ask this. I have been trying to settle this rather awkward matter since October, 1936, and at the same time trying to avoid making a legal matter out of it.
Therefore I do expect cooperation from you. My request seems to me so small that I feel certain you will grant it. I am sure that you have the file for these preceding years.
I shall be looking forward to receiving this statement.
Cordially yours,
Ernst Toller.
